giant moose in far east of russia | north-east of siberia
chukotka
spring wing shooting in north-east of siberia (chukotka)
expedition for collectors.
Chukotka is the utmost north-eastern extremity of Eurasia. Only 70 km of Bering Strait separate it from the American continent (Alaska). From the north it is washed by the waters of the Arctic Ocean and from the east – by the Pacific Ocean.
This area is unique due to its diversity of game-birds nesting in local latitudes. A considerable variety of biotopes (littoral rocks, tundra, lakes, rivers, mountain ranges) allows a considerable number of bird species to nestle comfortably on a comparatively small territory.
Hunting area – either the coast of the Arctic Ocean (Pevek, Schmidt) or the part of the Pacific Ocean, Cross Gulf (Egvekinot).
A stationary tent camp equidistant from the main places of bird gathering is set up at the place of the hunt. To get separate rare species inhabiting distant areas transfers with fly camp are organized. Caterpillar vehicles and motor boats are used for transfers in the hunting areas, in case of need a helicopter may be used. Due to the polar day the hunt may last up to 20 hours per day. The group is accompanied by professional guides.
The Chukotka climate is rather changeable at the end of May – at the beginning of June. . Sunny warm (up to 20 C) days can change to windy and cold (to 0 C) days with thick mists. Strong precipitations as rains or snow are unlikely.
